Well, here it is! The first in the current season of Aaron Blogs Your Face Off, this time brought to you from sunny South Africa!! Ok, i lie. It is NOT sunny here... not by a long shot. In fact, you could say the start to this epic adventure has been anything BUT sunny. Let me explain...
Well, the flight wasn't the issue - it was long, cramped and hot, but it was over after a swift 11 hours. Ha! Trouble is, i got really ill and decided the best thing to do during the night was to trip my sweet little butt off due to a temperature. According to what i was seeing - you're in fact reading the writing of the guy who INVENTED sleep. Yes folks, i somehow came to the conclusion that I was the single creator of sleep... fun times!
Needless to say, the journey was very cramped and didn't produce as much sleep as either Vij or myself would have liked! "Oh well," we thought, "the holiday can only get better! Right? Wrong.
We touchdown and Cape Town is a VERY hot 11oC and it is occasionally tipping it down. Indeed, you can't even see Table Mountain because of all the fog and rain. Not cool. But this isn't the big kicker that's put us on a slight downer - no, that honour is bestowed upon the sea having swells of 7m+...
So what does that mean? Well, picture us trying to shark dive with the tide surging up and down 7m all the time. The result? Tenderised Aaron in a cage ready for the shark ready to chow down on. Not cool. Essentially - our shark diving has been cancelled. I can't confer to you HOW bummed out this has got us, as it's one of the primary reasons for us visiting this place! Essentially, it seems that nature doesn't want me to get petrified and soil myself in a massive cage.
Is everything lost? Well... no. We're trying to re-arrange our already loose itinerary to allow us to shark dive in a different location along the coast. There's no way on Earth that i'm going to sacrifice this opportunity. Initially, we were going to dive for 2 days in Gansbaai (tomorrow and Wednesday), but we've been told the weather won't change until Thursday. SO - we're going to move on out of Cape Town potentially a day early (Wednesday) in order to head to another town called Hermanus. We WILL dive damn it!! I WILL soil myself and i WILL potentially still lose a limb. But will it be worth it? You bet your sweet ass it will be!
Besides ALL of that, we're here, and we mean business. It's just a shame that all of our plans have to change. Who knows, it might all be for the better! It best be... after enduring that plane journey i want, nay, demand some fun times!! Speaking of which, tomorrow we're going to some vineyards a bit in-land of here. Now, i know that sounds supremely poncy and slightly lame, but we've been promised that it will be a savage lash. Therefore - why would we turn it down!? After today's debacle, i think we've earned the right to get totally brutalised before rockin' on out of C-Town. Check how hip i'm sounding - C-Town. Brap!
Anyways, i don't think there's anything else to report as of yet due to today's non-start. Tonight we're off to go eat some Impala / Kudu / Bok / Crocodile (not all at once... though the thought of it DOES sound tempting!). Then we're off out with the unknown quantity that are our bunk mates. One of which is a VERY enthusiastic Dutch guy... who will henceforth be known as "Dutch Guy" - we may find out his name though... possibly...
For all that, and more, stay tuned. I might try and fire out a blog tomorrow evening if i'm not totally obliterated by the drink. If not... then i'll probably speak to you all in Hermanus. Things really CAN only get better...
Much love,
Aaron x

Hang in there
ReplyDeleteYou will wish you were dead if you go out in these seas.
It is worth the wait.
The seas are even worse near the islands.
You can always dive in the aquarium with the turtles if you can't wait.
